7.7 Simple or continuous?

La differenza non è il tempo trascorso, ma dove guardi: al risultato o all'attività.

azione conclusaazione che continua
  • I have written three emails. → conta il risultato: tre.
  • I have been writing emails all morning. → conta il tempo passato a farlo.

Un esempio che chiarisce tutto

  • She has painted the kitchen. → è finita, è dipinta.
  • She has been painting the kitchen. → magari non ha finito, e ha le mani sporche.

Attenzione

Con how long si preferisce quasi sempre il continuous, con how many il simple:

  • How long have you been learning English?
  • How many words have you learned?
