Per dire qualcosa che vale per tutti, l'inglese usa you, they o one.
| Pronome | Registro |
|---|---|
| you | normale, informale |
| they | riferito a un'autorità generica |
| one | formale, poco usato |
- You can't smoke here. → non tu in particolare: nessuno.
- They say it's going to snow.
- One should always be polite. → molto formale.
Attenzione
L'italiano usa il si impersonale — si dice, non si può fumare — che in inglese non ha un equivalente diretto. Le strade sono tre: you, il passivo impersonale (it is said that), oppure people.
- You can't park here. ✅
- It is said that he lives abroad. ✅
- One can't park here. → corretto ma suona ottocentesco.
