18.5 Passive infinitives and -ing forms

Anche infinito e gerundio hanno una forma passiva, utile quando il soggetto subisce invece di agire.

FormaCostruzioneEsempio
infinito passivoto be + participioShe wants to be told the truth.
gerundio passivobeing + participioHe hates being interrupted.
infinito perfettoto have been + part.He seems to have been forgotten.

Dopo le preposizioni

Dopo una preposizione va sempre la forma in -ing:

  • I'm tired of being treated like a child.

Attenzione

Cambiare da attivo a passivo qui cambia chi fa cosa:

  • He wants to tell her. β†’ Γ¨ lui a parlare.
  • He wants to be told. β†’ Γ¨ lui ad ascoltare.
