I quantificatori si scelgono in base alla numerabilitĂ del sostantivo.
| Numerabile | Non numerabile | |
|---|---|---|
| grande quantitĂ | many | much |
| piccola quantitĂ | a few | a little |
| quasi niente | few | little |
| neutro | a lot of, some | a lot of, some |
- How many books? / How much water?
- I have a few friends. / I have a little time.
"Few" o "a few"
L'articolo cambia il tono:
- a few friends â alcuni, ed è positivo.
- few friends â pochi, ed è negativo.
Attenzione
Much al positivo suona formale: nel parlato si preferisce a lot of.
- I have a lot of work. â naturale.
- I have much work. â corretto ma rigido.
Nelle domande e nelle negazioni much è invece normale: How much does it cost?, I don't have much time.
In italiano molto copre sia much sia many, quindi la scelta va fatta guardando il sostantivo, non l'aggettivo.
