La posizione
Con un pronome, both può stare dopo:
- Both of them came. / They both came.
Attenzione
Both vuole sempre il plurale. L'errore nasce soprattutto con both of us, dove viene spontaneo accordare il verbo con one: invece resta plurale, both of us are tired, non is.
E non si usa al negativo: per negare si passa a neither.
- Neither of them came. ✅ — Both of them didn't come. → ambiguo (nessuno dei due? o solo uno?), meglio evitarlo.
