Servono a confrontare due cose. La forma dipende dalla lunghezza dell'aggettivo.
| Aggettivo | Comparativo |
|---|---|
| una sillaba | + -er: tall β taller |
| due sillabe in -y | -ier: happy β happier |
| due o piΓΉ sillabe | more + aggettivo: more expensive |
- My brother is taller than me.
- This book is more interesting than that one.
Le regole di ortografia
- consonante finale raddoppiata: big β bigger, hot β hotter
- -e finale: nice β nicer
Attenzione
Il confronto si introduce con than, non con of. L'italiano dice più alto di me, e da lì esce l'errore:
- taller than me β β taller of me β
E le due forme non si sommano mai:
- more interesting β β more interestinger β
- taller β β more taller β
